About Us
How Critter Sitters came to be... 
Critter Sitters is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Irene & David Green.
I (Irene) was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I inherited a love of animals from my family at a very early age. I remember growing up with no less than five cats running around the house at one time! Between my sister and me, we were always bringing home some kind of critter that required attention. I recall having everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and chinchillas!
After graduating in 1979, I pursued a career in the animal field working for a veterinary hospital in Oakland. I was the Front Office Asst. Manager handling everything from answering phones and filling prescriptions to helping with procedures. It is at this pet hospital I met my future husband, David. Dave is originally a New York native that moved to the San Francisco area in 1977. He attended the Bay City College of San Francisco, where he earned his degree as an Animal Health Technician. After Graduating, Dave worked at the facility as the Lead Technician.
Dave and I always seem to acquire special needs animals that are deemed un-adoptable to the average family. We have had everything from a diabetic cat to a three legged dog to a man-hating parrot. We remember the days of trying to find a pet sitter when we’d need to leave town – it seemed impossible. Good luck trying to find a “friend” that can pill a skittish cat twice a day, give an insulin injection to a large dog or force feed an ill tempered parrot! We would often forgo trips because we had no reliable care for our brood. Back in those days, kenneling or hospitalizing our animals at the Veterinarian, was our only choice.
Since Dave and I are both from the veterinary industry, we realized that there was a need for quality pet care without having to put an animal through the trauma of a lengthy kennel stay. We saw a need and created a top quality niche for ourselves. By having the animals stay in the home environment it virtually eliminates separation stress issues or contracting transmittable diseases such as Kennel Cough, Bordatella, FIP or worse! Oh, and don’t forget about having to get your best friend groomed before you can bring them home to wash off the, shall we say, “kennel cologne”? Needless to say, this is a very stressful and expensive proposition!
We look forward to operating Critter Sitters for many years to come. It is so gratifying to see a client return home to a happy, healthy pet that actually had a good time while their parents were away!
Our sole mission is to provide animal parents peace of mind when they can’t be at home with their loving companions.
